This year’s Equine Extravaganza’s line-up of horse industry professionals reads like
the horse industry’s Who’s Who of equestrian professionals.
This three day all-breed, all-discipline horse expo brings together the
largest gathering of nationally renowned, multi-discipline horse
industry profession to assemble in one place in the state of Virginia,
perhaps ever! In true all-breed, all discipline form, the Extravaganza
presents not only some of the best general horse trainers in the world,
but also some of the top riders and experts in the fields of eventing,
hunters, western pleasure, dressage, reining, gaited horses, driving,
side saddle, trick riding, trick horse training, vaulting, Polocrosse,
drill team, and so much more. In addition, the AAEP (American
Association of Equine Practitioners) Seminar Series tops off the line-up
with some of the industry’s leading experts in the equine health and
medicine. All in all, if you are a horse person, expert of beginner,
you will find something of interest at the Extravaganza.
The line-up begins with
two of America’s best know trainers and horsemen, John Lyons and Richard
Shrake.
John Lyons,
known by many as “America’s Most Trusted
Horseman”, needs no introduction, as he is probably one of the most
respected horse trainers in the country and best known names in the
horse industry. John is guaranteed to give each and every Extravaganza
attendee information and tools that they can use at home with their own
horses. Whether dealing with trailer loading, ground manners,
aggressive behavior, or horses in need of small attitude adjustments,
John addresses each concern with kindness, patience, and an easy to
understand approach to solving the problem. Each person attending will
be guaranteed to leave armed with practical tools that they can use
again and again.
Richard
Shrake’s Resistance Free®
Training & Riding method has become one of the hallmarks of horse
trainers across the country. Horses trained using Richard’s formula for
success become confident, willing, and relaxed partners. From training
to showing to teaching and judging, Richard has done it all, and will
share his expertise on such topics as starting a young horse,
understanding the psychology of your horse, improving your show
performance and much more.
This year’s Extravaganza welcomes back one of the
most entertaining and remarkable horsemen in the US: Tommie Turvey,
Jr. Not only does Tommie thrill audiences around the world with his
superb trick and stunt riding abilities, but his performances
demonstrate his remarkable ability to work with his horses in ways that
just don’t seem possible. It is not uncommon to see Tommie’s horse
lying on his back, four legs straight up in the air, while Tommie sits
on the horses belly and sings into a hoof like a microphone. Tommie’s
acts certainly fall in the “don’t try this at home” category. Not only
will Tommie trill and entertain the audiences in the evening show, Equus
Extraordinaire, but he will also share some of his incredible trick
horse training and trick riding skills in clinics throughout the
weekend, including Building a Foundation for the Trick Horse, Trick and
Fancy Mounting,
Trick Horse
Training, Advanced Horse Obedience and
Working with the Unruly horse.
If Hunters are your
passion, join one of the most respected hunter trainers and riders in
the country, Tommy Serio for his clinic series at the
Extravaganza. In more than three decades as a professional in the
hunter ring, Tommy has earned international acclaim as both rider and
trainer, winning numerous year-end awards and major show championships
aboard legendary hunters such as The Wizard and For Many Reasons.
Tommy will offer first hand demonstrations on his winning techniques and
successful approach to improving the performance of both horse and rider
in the hunter ring.
Back by popular demand,
world class eventer Stephen Bradley will return to the
Extravaganza in 2005. Stephen is not only a first-rate eventer, but an
exceptional all round horseman, as well. Stephen has been excelling in
3-day eventing for almost three decades, with 2004 as one of his best
years yet. Stephen was on track to join the USET Eventing Team in
Athens in 2004, but sadly his horse suffered an injury and they were
unable to attend. Stephen’s clinics in 2004 were some of the most
popular for all riders, regardless of their discipline, as Stephen
shared tips and techniques to help everyone become better overall
riders. This highly sought after trainer will share his expertise on
developing tools and skills for successful eventing and dealing with
concerns that face the event horse and rider in training and in
competition.
If dressage is your
love, whether new to dressage or a skilled competitor, Mari Monda
Zdunic is a “must see”. Mari is a USDA metal winner many times over
and an exceptional competitor, trainer and horsewoman. Mari has earned
the United States Dressage Federation Bronze, Silver and Gold Rider
Medals and has ridden on three Olympic Sports Festival teams for the
United States, winning Bronze and Silver Team Medals. She has earned
three United States Dressage Federation Horse of the Year Awards. One
of Mari’s passions is encouraging all riders to turn their horse,
regardless of breed, into a dressage horse extraordinaire. “I want to
share what I know with EVERYONE- so THEY will go home and do a little
more with whatever is in their pasture,” says Mari about her visit to
the Extravaganza. Mari has won numerous regional and national awards at
all levels in dressage, riding a variety of different (at last count 18)
breeds. Mari has competed 14 horses at the Grand Prix level, and has
shown the first Grand Prix Arabian, Appaloosa, Connemara, and Paint
horses in North America, leading the way in producing more American
horses, riders and trainers at the upper levels of dressage competition
than any other organization. Attend Mari’s clinics and experience the
unique blend and successful combination of Haute Ecole, Classical and
Competition dressage and her enthusiasm for dressage for all breeds!
